Speculating queer futures
representing diversity now
At Asta’Violet, we believe that everyone should see themselves reflected in the prism of speculative fiction.
What do we define as speculative fiction? Any fiction where it asks: “What if?” or “How Gay could we get?” or “Why are iced coffees so expensive?” All important questions! We will accept prose, poetry or hybrid works that are Sci-fi, Fantasy or Horror. This includes sub-genres! If you aren’t sure if your work “fits” please see our FAQueeries!
Submissions must be speculative fiction that is centred around the LGBTQIA+ experience.
Our values
We believe diversity is necessary for the literary landscape to evolve and expand. We strive to create an inclusive platform for a variety of voices. We’re committed to showcasing new LGBTQIA+ speculative fiction. We stand to provide a platform for new and developing voices. Whether you have never been published before, exploring your craft or are a part of the furniture, we are here to provide that platform!

Frequently Asked Queeries!
Ha! Get it? Because we’re Queer!
-
This is an LGBTQIA+ Zine! We are inclusive! We value the work and experiences of family and allies of our community. Though, we are focused on presenting the queer experience through speculative fiction. So please make sure your work takes that approach. Without allies where would we be?
Just remember that if you are writing about LGBTQIA+ or adjacent experiences that you are respectful and mindful of harmful stigma and stereotypes.
-
Any fiction that asks “What if?” The genres of sci-fi, fantasy and horror cover the majority of this umbrella term. Alternative history, magical realism and slipstream are also welcome!
-
For the “queer audacity” of it all.
